Venice, LA, sometimes referred to by the locals as “The End of The World”, boasts a population of a whopping 202 persons, based on the 2010 census.  Venice is located approximately 77 miles south of New Orleans, LA.  Venice was almost completely destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Fortunately, the high bridge leading to Venice was not destroyed during the hurricane, and was used as an evacuation route. The people of Venice worked tirelessly to put this small Louisiana town back on the map, only for it to be met by yet another economic and environmental set back. In late April 2010,  the environmental disaster from the Deepwater Horizons drilling rig explosion, caused oil to begin washing ashore in Venice, and killed much of it’s fragile marine ecosystem.Fishing Camp

The small town of Venice did eventually bounce back, and still manages to be one of the nations best destinations for fishing charters.  Louisiana offshore fishing is a major industry.  With the fishing out of Venice making up the majority of the local revenue, Charter Fishing in Venice LA is big business.  Charter Fishing Fleets depart daily, and year round, from the many marinas that anchor Venice to the Gulf of Mexico.  These fishermen very rarely return to shore without a good days catch of a wide variety of freshwater and saltwater fish.

The vast amount of the varying species of marine life is a portion of what draws tourist and locals alike to Venice for fishing and hunting. The fishing and shrimping business is vital to Venice’s economy, as is that Venice provides service and transport for off-shore petroleum platforms in the Gulf of Mexico.

There are many delicious dining and lodging opportunities sprawled throughout this small town.  You can find local chefs serving up the freshest of fish, shrimp, crab and water fowl.  This being said, it does not mean you cannot put your hands on a great steak, hamburger or cajun cuisine that Louisiana is famous for as well.

The average price of a home in Venice, LA is a little above 100k.  That being said, there are small homes and camps available for less, and larger homes, camps and/or commercial listings into the half million dollar range.  With a population as small as Venice’s, there is not a lot of property sales annually.  When searching for property in Venice, it will benefit you to use a  REALTOR®
